This weekend we gave the cruiser a full body inside and out spa treatment. Friday afternoon we went and picked up the pipe for the air con that had now been welded.
All Brian had to do was put it back in.
It took us about three hours of twisting, pulling, adjusting, swearing and tearing before the pipe was in (as well as having to fish out TWO bolts falling down into the engine space, not one but TWO, until our arms were bruised). If it would turn out later that the pipe still doesn’t work and has to be taken out again, I think we’d be ready to pay someone else to do it.
We then lifted the bull bar off since we’ve been told it won’t pass the inspection. (Oh my goodness, the weight of that thing!) And Brian disconnected the winch cables.
So yeah, Friday was just a bit of work on this and that.
Saturday was the big washing day. But we started by emptying out all the water from the tank since we can’t have that freezing up when the temperature drops in a few weeks from now.
Brian was impressed with the high pressure and said it would be good for putting out a fire or watering the plants. Uhm… What plants? Are we bringing plants?
It was also a chance to get to know the hot and cold controls a bit better. How nice it is going to be to actually be able to rinse off in fairly warm water after a long day on the road!
Then we washed and washed and washed…
I didn’t even realize the writing on the tyres was originally white! Washing them made a huge difference to the car’s appearance.
I got to drive the car around the garage a bit and it was great fun, it’s been a while since I did. There’s something about this photo that looks a little… odd. Can’t put my finger on what it is though.
We then went home and invited a friend over for pancakes and a horror movie. And then today, a great sunny Sunday, Brian sacrificed watching the entire rugby game on tv (South Africa had been beaten anyway, we heard) and we once again headed off to the garage. We polished all the rims…
…which also made a big difference.
I then left Brian in the garage and took off on my Sunday ride.
On my way back I stopped at the Biltema shop and got spray paint for the bull bar, which was now ready to be painted.
And I found that Brian had mounted the new ladder we had bought a while back on the roof tent. Since the tent was custom made to sit in the front part of the roof rack but we wanted to move it back, we also had to make a new plan with the ladder. It remains to see if our plan will work the way we hope once the roof rack is back on the car.
I then went home and showered and went to work for the closing shift which meant I got back home at 10.30pm and found Brian fast asleep on the couch. It’s now almost midnight, the rain is pouring down outside and I’m so tired I’m almost nauseous but very excited for tomorrow for the simple reason that we’re going driving! We’re going somewhere! Let’s just see if we’ll pass the inspection. Keep your fingers crossed, my friends.
